| Record Description | This angel-winged insect is perhaps the most beautiful and most deceptively rapacious of all flies. The delicate lace wings remind you of spiritual beauty, but one close look at the evil glassy eyes of this creature invokes horror. This flutterer is the Banker of the Insect World, as it injects its defenceless aphid and caterpillar prey with digestive juices from horrendous mouthparts and sucks out the contents with an unsatisfiable appetite.
Do not encourage this to settle on your hand for a closer view of its beautiful wings! You may need an urgent transfusion.
There are reports that it disguises its own green grub like body with the dried skins of its prey. |
